The Real War
And so begins another war! Aircraft and ships launch their missiles,
the President makes a short speech, and the world is forever changed. Or is it?Our physical world will look different today and in the weeks (months?)
to come; but our Spiritual world - the world which ought to drive our
values, concerns, and prayers - has experienced much less change than we
might think. Though our physical world continually shifts - sometimes
experiencing increased hostility, sometimes increased "peace" - our
Spiritual world remains in a constant battle.Ephesians 6:12
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the
rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world
and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."There are many thousands of soldiers in greater danger today and
absolutely deserve our prayers for protection; and many family members
in need of prayer for comfort and strength. But, while meeting these
very real needs, is it possible for us as a Christian community to
understand that the Iraqi desert is not the true battle field? Victory
or defeat in the desert has little to do with success or failure in the
Heavenly realm. We do not battle against flesh and blood. So how should this impact our prayers? If we understand the Spiritual
battle ground, our prayers must always be centered around Salvation and
a deeper relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ; "What good
will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his
soul?" (Matthew 16:26). Our soldiers, commanders, and leaders need to
know Jesus as Savior and Lord. Family members need to trust in the Lord
with ALL their heart (Proverbs 3:5). And even our perceived enemies,
who may shout hatred for our country and people, desperately need our
prayers to experience the saving love of Jesus. Anything less makes a
mockery of our faith. Finally, we must not step away from the Spiritual battles we've already
been called to fight. Many of us have been praying for the Salvation of
family members and loved ones; many have been going into battle for
friends over addictions or Spiritual strongholds which threaten
marriages; and many have been carrying others into a closer walk with
Jesus through discipleship - these battles must continue, unhindered by
ANY distractions.Let's continue to pray for the safety of our soldiers, and that all
military objectives are being directed by God and met swiftly with
minimal loss of life. But as true soldiers of Jesus Christ, let's
continue to fight with all the Spiritual tools we've been given and
NEVER neglect the real war.Have a Great Day!
