Are you saved?  -

ParableMan comments that the parable of the sower has many worldly interpretations.  The parable has been interpreted to suit the needs of the people, to keep the people happy, and content, not wanting to stir the pot at all.

Somehow this has happened even though Jesus Himself explains the parable clearly in the scriptures.  Below is a God's Daily Word written by Steve Troxel.

ParableMan studied this parable and asked many people what they thought the parable meant, and most people opted for the easy interpretation.

A Life of Discipleship

When Jesus told His closest followers, "Go and make disciples of all nations," (Matthew 28:19), He wasn't just talking about the one-time event of Salvation; He was referring to the life-long process of "teaching them to obey everything I have commanded." (Matthew 28:20).

This process of discipleship begins prior to Salvation and continues through the rest of our life as we are "conformed to the likeness of His Son." (Romans 8:29).

Jesus told a parable of a farmer who scattered seed on different types of soil. He then explained the parable to His disciples.

Mark 4:14-20

"The farmer sows the word. Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them.

Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.

Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.

Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop."

Praise God for those who are sowing the word - for the seed will never germinate without someone who sows (Romans 10:14).

However, receiving the word, or even its initial growth, is NOT Salvation!

Receiving the word and being initially excited about its meaning is a blessed time, but without proper nourishment and protection - without some form of discipleship - the received word will never produce fruit.

Discipleship leads those who receive the word to a true understanding of: "Whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

(John 3:16). Discipleship then helps our roots go deep and provides water for sustained growth; it teaches how to recognize and eliminate the thorns which choke and kill.

We must commit to being discipled through reading God's Word, seeking Him in prayer, receiving biblical teaching, and being in fellowship with other believers.

We must also search for seeds which are beginning to grow and encourage through discipleship as they "come to a knowledge of the truth." (1 Timothy 2:4).

Let's reach up to our Heavenly Father and reach out to those He places in our path.

The world is searching and the seed is being sown; let's nurture and encourage - instruct and apply. The planted seed will only produce fruit and live to bring Him glory and honor as each of us commits to a life of discipleship.

Have a Great Day!

Here is another comment from Steve Troxel on this parable.

Scatter The Seed

In the following parable, Jesus tells a story of a farmer who scatters seed onto four different types of soil.

Luke 8:5-8

"A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds of the air ate it up.

Some fell on rock, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture.

Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants.

Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown."

Usually, this parable is considered from the aspect of the different types of soil.

The farmer represents each of us, the seed is the Word of God, and the different soils represent the different types of people who hear the gospel message.

There is encouragement in these verses for us to be well tilled soil, free of weeds and ready to receive the Word of God.  However, let's consider this parable from the aspect of the farmer.

In the days of Christ, fields were planted by casting or throwing out seed over all areas of a field.

In this parable, the farmer is never criticized for waste as he throws seed on the path, in the weeds, or on the rocks.

Planting day had arrived and it was the farmer's job to simply scatter the seed; he was not required to evaluate soil.

And there was no special technique required for planting.  As long as the seed was cast out over a wide area, it would reach the good soil and produce a crop.

We stand in the field of this world with the Word of God in our hand and written on our heart.

As we consider what to do with our seed, we must remember that the condition of the soil should never be our primary focus.

God has entrusted us with a life changing message and it's His desire for this message to be "scattered" to all!

There is definitely a time for tilling soil, pulling weeds, and digging out the rocks that hinder our Spiritual growth; but in the field which God has placed us, the time is always right for planting.

Let's share His message today.  Regardless of the condition of the soil, let's begin to faithfully scatter the seed!

Have a Great Day!
