How to do the rubiks-rubics cube

Terminology

This takes a long time to download, about 3 minutes but the
animations need to be on one page to explain the process
more effectively.  Thank you for you patience.

The cube has six sides. 1 Top, 1 bottom & 4 sides.  The top
is the color you decide to make first.

If you hold the cube with the Top facing up, then the 4 sides
are the 4 colors that surround the top.  The bottom is obviously
the opposite side to the top.

The first step is to get one side of the cube correct.  To do this
pick a color, then find some more blocks with the same color.
Then one by one move the blocks to the right place.  If you can't
do this then my advise is just to practice, but these tips might help.

  1. Pick a color, lets say it is green.
  2. Find a green corner piece (any one)
  3. Try to get this corner piece onto the bottom row of the cube.
This cube shows what is meant by the bottom row,
    with the
green face as the top.  Try to get the green corner
piece on the row that it rotating.
  4. Once you have a green piece on the bottom row then turn
the bottom row until the piece is below where you want it to be.
Once your piece is in the right place then you do
"The move" with it and "The move" is:

If you would like a solution in booklet, or rather book (30 pages) then it will cost you $10.95 US, and it will be in MS word format, ready for ring binding.  It is the same solution as on this site.

"Turn the row away and then come down and fetch your piece"
this is not clear now but hopefully it will be soon.

The green X marks where you want your piece to be, so you
position the
green corner piece directly below this as shown
in the picture above.

Orientate the cube as shown in the picture below with the green
middle piece facing up and the green corner piece that you are
working with facing you.  There are now only two options.

  1. The green corner piece can either be on the left or the right
of the face that is facing you, see picture.
    The
green circle shows the only other possible place that
    your
green corner piece could be on the bottom row.  Note there
    should be a
green X above the circle as well.
  2. If the piece is on the left (circle) then you turn the bottom row
to the right one turn, if it is on the right (
    block) then you turn
the bottom row to the left one turn, see the animations below
    for the exact moves.

If your piece is in the (circle) position then your move is as shown
in the animation.  Note that the green piece is meant to be on the
top, just imagine that it is :-)
Keep you cube in the same orientation
as shown in the picture with the block and the circle.

Both these cubes are showing the same move, one is just slow and
the other is fast.  The words "
THE END" will appear on the cube and
then the move will start again.  Just ignore the
green middle piece on
the side, imagine that it is on the top face.

If your piece is in the (block) position the your move is as shown in
the animation below.

As for the middle pieces, you use the same move except it doesn't
matter which way you turn the bottom row, you can come down and
fetch your piece.  Position your middle piece on the bottom row below
where you want it to be, then do the move,
"Move the bottom row
away to the left or right, and then bring the middle column down, and
bring the bottom row back into position, then take the middle column
up."

Once you have one side then you need to check that the first row below
the top is correct.  If it is not then you have to swap middle & corner
pieces of the top color until you get the first row correct on all 4 sides.

If you are struggling to get the first row below the top correct then try
to look for all the white & orange color pieces, there will be only 3
pieces with those two colors.  These three pieces must be in a row.

To get the first row below the top correct you need to move corner
and middle pieces of the completed side around.

Look at the sides of your cube, the four sides below the completed top.
Match up one of the middle pieces above its middle block.
(What ever color you like, lets say it is
white)

MVC-062S.jpg (30952 bytes) In this picture the white edge piece is above the middle
white piece. So is the red one.

The corner pieces that have white on them will be somewhere on the
top row, you just need to move them.
To do this you need to work with one piece at a time.

You take the piece out by doing the opposite
move you did to get the piece in. Then you move the piece to where
you want it and then come down and fetch it.

Again you use the moves as shown in the animations, except
you are using the move to remove a piece from the top and then to
put it somewhere else.  (I have repeated the animations below, only
the fast moving ones, cause you know this move well by now:-)

You can use either of the animations below to remove you piece, then
just put it where you want it.  When you put it where you want it then
another piece will automatically be removed and you can place this piece
in the correct position.

Then line up the middle blocks on the four sides to match up with the
top row colors.  Now you have a small cross on the four sides & a
complete top.
