This move is to be used when you have got one side already completed, with the first row below the top also complete.  To do this please see Cube Basics

This move requires you to learn "Move 1" or in other words a sequence of moves.  "Move 1" shifts a block from the middle of the bottom row to either the left or the right column of that same side in the middle row. (See picture)

Notice the orientation of the cube, the top is facing away to the left and you can see two sides and the bottom of the cube.  The three green and three yellow pieces in a row are just below the top face.

MVC-064S.jpg (26252 bytes)The Green & yellow middle block (B1) that you see on this cube needs to be where the green & Blue middle block (B2) is.

You must match up the green of B1 below the middle green piece.

To move the piece to the right of it's current position you start "Move 1' to the left.  To move the piece to the left of it's current position you start "move 1" to the right.  I have written "Move 1" out both ways so that you can follow it word for word.  This move forms the basis for some of the other moves later on, so it is worth learning very well.  You should be able to do it with your eyes closed!!! (see below for the exact moves)

This is now another example of a different middle block moving, using the same move.  Note the three green and red blocks in a row, this is the first row below the top that is already completed.

MVC-065S.jpg (26861 bytes)The Green & red middle block (B3) that you see on this cube needs to be where the yellow & Blue middle block (B4) is.

You must match up the green of B3 below the middle green piece, and face the piece you are moving towards you, in this case the green/red piece.

  1. Move bottom row left 1 turn   (THIS Will move the middle block to the right, as required in the picture above)
  2. Move right column down 1 turn
  3. Move bottom row right 1 turn
  4. Move right column up 1 turn.

Alternative notation (This notation is not my own, but it is very good, and is very easy to follow)

This will have removed one of the corner pieces of the top, all you do now is put that piece back in the conventional way.  Eventually the putting back move will become part of the first 4 above making this move into an 8 turn move.

To put the corner piece back do the following moves.  These moves follow on exactly from where the previous four left off.

  • Move bottom row right 1 turn
  • Move left column down 1 turn (This left column is not the same as the one mentioned in 1-4 above, the whole cube has rotated to the left one turn) See the Alternative notation if you are confused.
  • Move bottom row left 1 turn
  • Move left column up 1 turn. (This should complete the top of the cube again)

Here is all eight moves put together in one animation, starting to the left

VISA VERSA (To put the block on the other side)  Below is the same moves but just the opposite way round.

  1. Move bottom row right 1 turn   (Will move the middle block to the left as shown in picture 1 above.)
  2. Move left column down 1 turn
  3. Move bottom row left 1 turn
  4. Move left column up 1 turn.

  • Move bottom row right 1 turn
  • Move right column up 1 turn. (This will complete the top of the cube again)

If you can't get this move correct, try doing it very slowly turn by turn, or look at the alternative notation. or the animated cube starting the move to the left or the animated cube starting the move to the right.

If one of the middle squares that you want to move somewhere else is already in the middle row then just replace it using "Move 1" to get it on the bottom row, from where "Move 1" can be used again to place it correctly.

When you have finished here you should have a completed top & two completed rows below the top.  Well done, you now only have 9 more blocks to get in place. The pictures below show how your block should look.

Please do not go onto the next moves if you have not mastered this move, you will only get frustrated!!!

Move 2 (requires you to know Move 1
